Jbuck, think about it. Each drawer holds 72 coins in slabs... That means that this cabinet can hold 1,440 coins. Gives me incentive to purchase another one if I can find out. Wife calls it a sickness

Nice setup but don't you worry about security?

Man, that would be a fun (yet complicated) build. Lots of time-consuming drawers.
Those kinds of pieces of furniture (card catalogs, map cases, flat filing cabinets, typeface cabinets, etc.) always catch my eye in antique shops and at flea markets but they're always so darned expensive.
Again, I love your application of this excellent piece of furniture to your collection.
edit: typos

Thanks CK.. Believe it or not my dad and I have tried to scope out what it would take to build one. He's a woodworker and coin collector. We both just sighed and said, not from his little shop. I do have a contractor who has a sub who does wood work. Thought I might hit him up to see what it would cost to build one. Probably too much but you never know.

The cost is really in the tools you'd need.... though looking at this I can't see much needed outside of a hobbyist's wood shop. Tools to dimension the wood (table saw, jointer, planer) and a router table for rabbets and dadoes and the fancy edge treatments... again, IMO, the work here is the large number of drawers and the fuss making them fit and slide nicely. By no means a simple project, but definitely approachable for someone with a bit of woodworking experience....and some free time.

I do have one question... how do you catalog your collection in these drawers?
