I find that a lot of pennies I find turn a very dark copper color when left outside for a extended period of time. Not buried in the ground but are on the asphalt type of surface and seen many days outside in the rain and sun. Some I find are leftover from the snowbanks but not much snow this year. So I would guess this quarter has the same copper color apperance as other coins from beginning left outside

The fourth picture shows the regular copper color, then the rest of it is in this black dark color. Why wouldn't the entire layer be the same dark color? If that where the case (coin being left outside for long duration) I'd think it would or should be showing all the way round. These pictures are showing the same coin. There is no trick photography being used, there's nothing to be gained if I did that and a big waste of all our times. I will post pictures of obverse and reverse and normal copper and the black color where they meet. But most of the times my pictures always come out blurry when I post. I do not own a scanner. But I will try to try

The coin has a copper core. The dark sections have been colored by environmental exposure. The copper area was less exposed, probably pressed against something

Doesn't show any signs of the coin being left out hung to dry, it's a magic coin that defies the laws of physics? Collecting coins is becoming overwhelmingly frustrating nowadays. Found a 1944s Wheat cent and then a 1947 d silver dime given to me as change when I bought some lemonheads these past two days. Wondering if they are worth keeping or expendable?

And I would think that only a small portion of any round coin would be pressed up against something or I could be wrong and everyone else would be right. Aaaaaargh......!!!

Even a black magic marker applied on the copper would make that area dark. If there was some on the silver color, that would wear off quickly, leaving a darker color copper on the edge.

Hi I think I have the same quarter except mine is black on the backside. I noticed your coin like mine has 65 or 5 on the right side of the mintmatk. From your pic I can see the same
