All I know about this coin is that it is definitely Chinese. I found it in a jar of coins my husband had. It's approx. 1/2 in (12.7 mm) (smaller than a US dime)

All help is appreciated.

I don't know anything at all about Chinese coins, but I enjoy a puzzle. From what I can figure out, this is probably a modern 'good -luck' token. The inscription -- 'tong zhi tong bao' -- indicates a coin of the Tongzhi Emperor (reigned 1861-1875), but your coin looks more recent and the reverse is all wrong.

Similar tokens manufactured in bulk in China are sold as novelties and good luck charms. I can't link to the listing, but I saw this reverse on tokens sold on a popular Chinese online marketplace as 'antique imitation' for 'art and collectible.'

Welcome to CCF cdnyankee. I agree with glenmore that this is a modern token or charm rather than a cast cash of 19th century China.
