I remember when Eisenhower was president, and as a kid I thought he was a great man. Still do. I love Ikes. I get them at the bank once in a while; sometimes a teller will have one or a few or even an entire roll, and I'll snap them all up. But usually, they don't have any, and when I ask all the tellers say the same thing — "We don't get them in very often, but when we do they don't last long, people grab them right away." I don't collect them though, I just like having them around, and sometimes will leave one or two as part of a tip when I'm particularly pleased with the service. And I can't understand why people are calling the Eisenhower dollars ugly. Now SBAs — they're ugly!

We would all be lucky to be so handsome at that age, after having done so much in service to our country.

Hey guys - just having fun. I like to spar with jbuck.

Didn't mean to upset anyone - if so, apologies for sure!

I knew you were just having fun.

Not Hamilton and Burr fun, but Abbott and Costello fun.

I just can't seem to help myself when the subject of Gasparro comes up and I find my self jumping in, not always wisely. To me, he represents the beginning of the downfall in US Mint designs.

I'm trying to imagine the various Mint and Fed committees who considered the SBA design and concluded, "Hey, this is great, let's take Frank to lunch."

SBA will always be a looker as long as there are EKS (Special Olympics World Games) commemorative dollars out there.

I was a kid in the 1970s when Ikes were still being minted for circulation. I always just thought Ikes were special - I didn't have much money since I was just a kid but I always held onto Ikes whenever I was able to get my hands on one. They were just cool coins to me because of their size and their design, and that feeling has never left me. My Ike Dansco was the first Dansco I filled and it's always the first one I grab whenever I feel like looking at my collection. They're just awesome coins all around.

Plus I just adore the reverse design!

I kept the first two that I ever received and have held on to every one since. My Eisenhower 8176 was my first album completed, too.
