Another one, from the same branch of my bank where I got the first (this actually being in the big city, not the more nearby small town). This example's rather beat up, having apparently circulated for some time.

It was resting in plain sight in the teller's change tray, and when I told her I'd take it (perversely, I like using them), she remarked it'd been sitting there since last Wednesday and I was the first to ask for it. I didn't realize it was in fact a 40%'er until she handed it over.

Man I'd love to be a teller...

I was a teller for about eight months, and I don't remember seeing anything worth saving. Just like out in the real world--most of the stuff that passed through my hands was common coinage.

I collect coins here in Korea and went back to the states for Thanksgiving. I picked up four rolls of halves for the fun of it (and they are pretty). My Pop said I wouldn't find one, but on my second roll I got a 40%! They are still out there, you just gotta keep looking.

All one has to do is be a gentleman or a lady to the tellers and they will usually be happy to save things for you. Especially if you take the junk off of their hands(coins that they have to count at the end of the day). Oh yes be a regular at the bank also helps.

I always go around a few banks and ask for halves whenever I visit the States. I've never had a 90%, but in Richmond, Virginia once I scored a CWR with several 40% including a 1969S proof!

They are still out there, I've found over 1,000 40% halves in coin rolls between 2009 and 2015.
