VF-20 to much wear in the hair. It's to bad because over all it's a nice looking coin.

Easy VF 30 at ICCS . In a PCGS holder might get EF 40. Nice choice VF Coin!

I think this coin would easily make EF40 at ICCS

30 - 35 larger pics might reveal more detail in the hair than shown, possible 40

I don't think that one has enough wear to drop it below XF; AU would be a stretch, but with the "market grading" mentality that seems to have taken over in recent years, who knows? In any case, lovely example of a very desirable coin. Many collectors would settle for a lot lower condition just to fill the hole.

What I find alarming and every collector should to is the harm that over grading is doing to this hobby. We need new collectors for this hobby, so when a new collector joins lets burn him or her on an over graded coin. Lets then laugh about it and say buyer should of known better. Then lets pretend we don't know why this hobby has a shortage of new collectors joining.

To start, 1858 strikes are notoriously weak. You can't compare it to any other vicky obverse so I don't think an EF40 for this coin is out of reach. Have a look online at some 1858 ICCS graded examples (even in older holders). Secondly, the idea of these forums is to provide opinion and for many to learn. I don't think anyone here posts a comment on a grade thinking they are purposely over grading a coin for some material gain or malice. Here is a a EF45 1858 for reference. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1858-Canada-...AOSwU-pXt1o7
