@typecoin971793 Good advice. Good pictures too. I've been experimenting with iPhonetography as well. I tried to rest the phone on a small cardboard box but using books as you suggested provide a more firm foundation. I might add that a camera ap with a timer delay shutter would help reduce vibration. A good soft light source from multiple angles is critical as well to reduce glare and unwanted shadows. Experiment with what you have available.

I didn't do very good with mine. Need better subdued lighting.  This is before darkening the coin with the optimizer ...  Oregon coin geek.....*** GO BEAVS ! ! ! ***

tried this I phone 4. to see what kind of magnification I could get. I can see I need to built a little micro focuser. its not to bad to hard to try to hold steady. here is a couple of images. I purchased these 4 little lens for 5 dollars. still trying to figure out how to mount them. but I think I got it for one of these lens. the lens are all different. they came from surplus shed. nice little lens they are all built different.   |

GR58 ray help myself and some others. get in touch with company in the USA called surplus shed. they offer 4 mini lens. that can be adapted to cellphones plus ipads. they cost 5 dollars US. one of them is very high resolution. I have make a little device. to attach it to my cell phone. here is a image from the second lens. I think there is a link on rays elcheapo thread. to this surplus shed if you are interested  |

Your last pic (of the "D") is amazingly good. The sharpness on parts of the "D" seems to rival what the 10x/0.28 Mitutoyo M plan APO can do with a DSLR.

Nice set of lenses. The short focal length ones should be great for high mag shots. Quality will be better than you can get with a USB camera, for sure. I'd suggest setting the camera focus on infinity (if possible) so that the camera isn't constantly trying to focus. Then you just need to find the right height and you're set.

yes ray you are right. there is one more little lens. its the biggest of the four lens. its is the size of my marks a lot. I got these lens from that link you had shared on elcheapo thread. thank you for that ray. you are right I need to find that sweet spot for focus. ray the last lens is the best I believe. I dont have a clue what these are made for. but surplus shed said. these 4 lens are in high demand for cellphone macro work. they only cost 5 dollars american at the time. I purchased them. when I get the last one attached I will post some photos. have a great one
