I saw this listing from MCM a few weeks ago and bought some. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2016-Canada...AOSwFV9XxaKOHow are they in mint sealed packaging? Were these coins sold for another purpose, like left over maples that didnt get some sort of privy mark?

I remember buying my first silver maple, it was 1988 and only cost me $4.00 and I know early on they came in sheets. I am not sure how long that continued though but I am sure to at least the mid 2000's.

See, thats how I remember buying Maple Leafs in the 2000s, you bought them in the sheets, 10 at a time I believe.
So when MCM was offering this, I was like DANG...and I proceeded to back up the truck. jk lol
I think I am going to ask them and see what answer they give me.

When I bought these in the plastic, it was just a coin at a time. Many bought the sheets and broke them apart to sell individually.

I actually bought 20 maple leafs from my LCS in sheets like these. They are from 1988, the first year for them. I got a decent deal but half have milk issues.

I have to look at mine and see if they started with the milk spots, I wouldnt doubt it. This is why I would not get silver bullion coins slabbed and graded, no matter the grade, because of the implications of milk spots. Just not worth it on silver bullion coins.... at least until the mints fix this issue.

I have a couple of 2006 dates left from a strip of 5 that I bought some years ago. I opened some up just a couple of weeks back and they are in remarkable condition. The plastic is very thick and scratch-resistant. No milk spots at all. These coins are 10 years old.

so I checked,,,, they are 10 in a sheet for me. None have milk spots. I have, on the other hand, a 2015 25th anniversary maple leaf that developed milk spots immediately, go figure!

Today I spotted a 1990 maple, sealed, not with milk spots but with black toning.

@Libertad
Dang, not cool. :/
I did have black spots show up on all the canadian wildlife coins I bought. You can guess what happened to a bunch of them. They were stored in a climate controlled room.
They were not SEALED in tubes. I was like "what the _____" I cant say the word because it will get censored. oh well.

I have some sealed 2013 25-th Anniversary SMLs - still no milk spots, and have one sealed 2007 SML - it has tiny milk spot. I do not think, that any way can preserve these coins, it very different from coin to coin...

I found a deal on the 1997 1 Oz Silver Maple Leafs, sealed in RCM original 10-pack sheets, which is THE key Date coin for the series..I almost had a heart attack when the seller accepted my low offer(after making sure none were banged up, or toned). I think my seller got them from a customer who was dumping a big collection(other sealed years were available), or, a family member selling a deceased relatives collection, as these do NOT show up often in this state, raw, and in 10-packs. Needless to say, they arrived in about as pristine as the day they were made. Beyond happy. less than 1% had minor toning. ALL back from NGC. Basically holding in vault for a rainy day. (A few on ebay now also). Don't want to dilute the situation. A 1997 MS69 sale on ebay awhile ago sold for $255, then, a second one at $355, so, you can see the key date values there. For LOW Mintage coins, this one is a winner, at 100,970 struck, and, POP of ALL grades at NGC very low 185, with 50 MS69's, and, NO MS70...yet. So, the key to buying in original mint sheets is ask a LOT of condition questions prior to purchase. The soft plastic would never protect the coins from moderate blows, and, are vulnerable. In hand, the original mint die lines and reflectivity get my blood flowing big time...one heckofa handsome coin, for sure.
