There is no risk to RCM as anticipated these were commissioned by CCC, they are the one's holding some risks if the series burns out, by now they either have a colour set on the verge or they will back out. The dies and set up costs of a commissioned coin is bore by the agent, it's a bad practice for collectors but a profitable in many ways for RCM.

This strikes me as misleading --

Since the Big Coin series was introduced in 2015, every coin in the first two series has sold out from the Mint in minutes
http://www.cdncoin.com/2017-Big-Coi...gcoinsub.htm

Most people would presume RCM sold the bulk of the mintage and it was one hot release. But reality is nobody can really know how many or few RCM sold (in minutes). Maybe only 100 or as few as 10, it's just a guess.

I strongly disagree about overpaying.
If you need only 1 item of something, why you would buy 2 items + 1 free?

Same for this subscription.
If I would think about Goose only, and I have 1000 spare to spend, why it will be reasonable to spend 3300 for all set?

And in the reasons list will support:
1. Too costly
4. Too much coins already came out and more to come in 2017

Using that same logic, the SD goose coin ought to sell for $2000, heck even $3000! Why not? 5 ounces of silver but a really nice coin, sure, why not?

But seriously, okay I'll go with cheaping out at only $1000..... everyday people who think it's important enough to really "need" a replica of a 1967 way above issue price of $550? That's aside from the fact the original coin can be bought for $20 or $30. People spending $1000 for one coin are obviously already into NCLT in a big way, which describes a MC or a VIP member of a dealer program. They are not apt to buy a x2 priced NCLT on ebay. So who would be?

Considering the Cdn 50th anniversary of a 1967 coin, it's foreign appeal will also be limited, minimizing an attractive conversion rate compared to our lowly loonie. Foreign buyers, nope, probobsly not lining up here either.

One important Rule of marketing is to determine who will be your buyer, in general terms. Demographics, etc. Canadian buyers with deep pockets, money is no object? Older age group but new to NCLT who is over the heels crazy to accumulate a collection of one 5oz coin? ? Good luck!

I purchased the set from the RCM. Why? Because it is a gorgeous series, which as mentioned showcases Alex Colville's art exquisitely. Plus I do like gold on silver. It will be part of my collection which no doubt will be inherited by my children.

I really appreciate the many comments on this forum, but I think there is a tendency to be too critical of RCM coin purchases based on assessment of quick profit. I recall discussion of first gold Superman and same sort of comments which were ultimately proven to be very wrong. Please keep in mind that most of us collect coins to keep and enjoy, not flip.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I just received a phone call from TSC and tolled me the order of the big coin that I have placed on Oct 1st Item Number:653-918 is not for the whole set but just the coin and the case. There is no auto delivery on the item #653-918. So who ever placed an order with that Item Number:653-918 will only get the $1 Canada Goose coin and box. He did try to sell me the whole set which is Item Number:653-933. I chose not to and might buy them one at a time as they come out if I choose too. Hope that puts an end to the confusion on the premature posting of the big coin set.

@clvlys

Again, thank you for the great post. I am a collector like you. I do not resell. This set is a keeper and I too
do not enjoy reading about the flipping value of these coins. Then again everyone is allowed to opine.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

@jimper.

Thank you for clarification on TSC item 653-918.

I ordered 2 pcs and TSC shipped out already.

Does 653-918 comes with one coin in single graphic package + 1 wood case?
If this is the case, I can keep Goose SD myself and give away big wood case to friends.

Or does 653-918 comes with only one big wood case? no single maroon clamshell case?
If this is the case, I am holding 1 coin + 1 big wood case with 5 empty spaces for other 5 coins.

653-918 does comes with one coin in single graphic package + 1 wood case per order.
I was thinking of putting together various 5 oz coins in the case as to keep them together in one place. Case is a bonus.
I sold 1 coin on my store for $645.00 on auction. I was hoping a little more but It's not bad. I have 4 more coming, But I'll keep the one and the case. Still some coins on auction.

@New1954

I don't mind reading posts about resale value. I am sure that you do not. One has to keep in mind that the decision to add a coin or series to one's collection involves considerations that go beyond opinions of near turn resale value ... no matter how valid. Many coins appealed to me because of theme and design. Of those that I purchased, have they retained their resale value in today's market? Certainly not all, but I am still am glad to hold them in my collection. And this set is particularly nice.

Cheers

Just got the coin. Looks nice but it looks like someone's already touched the coin. IS anyone else's like that?

It doesn't look too bad to me but it is disappointing that it's not perfect. Where did you buy it from?
