Hey folks.
There are two 1 Peso notes, P-293 & P-311. There was a major note issue in between these. Was the P-293 1 Peso note the 1 Peso note for that 1976-83 series, or was the 1 Peso temporarily removed to a coin or something?
Thanks.

Due to out-of-control inflation, caused by lavish spending and the Falklands War, Argentina's Peso was just about worthless by 1983. You had to pay for a meal at the restaurant as soon as you ordered, or the price would be higher by the time it was prepared and served, let alone eaten by the customer. So, in 1983, the Argentine Peso was replaced by the Peso Argentino, hence the new currency.
It didn't work, the spending continued, and by 1985 the Peso Argentino was itself worthless, and replaced in turn by the Australe, only to be replaced in 1991 by a new Peso.

Hey Pax Brit.
I remember those days. I actually visited Argentina in 1993 after I graduated from high school and have been there several times since. I'm trying to collect the lowest non-sub-unit denominations for the various issues of Argentina and am trying to recall if it was a larger inflation era note that should go in-between (as opposed to a one peso note).

Both the Peso and the Peso Argentino began as the standard range of banknotes, Ones to a Hundred, then larger denominations were added, the 500 note, then 1,000, ending with a Million Pesos. The Pesos Argentinos ended with a 10,000 PA note, then was replaced by the Australe. That blossomed to a 500,000 Australe note, the new Peso is still limited to 100 Pesos, for the time being.
They could adopt the US dollar as a currency, like Ecuador or Panama, or the Euro or the British Pound, if they wanted to, but it seems to me that if they do that, the rulers wouldn't be able to pick up the national assets for centavos on the peso, as it were, when they inflate the currency.
