I'd agree that they don't mint all of the coins at once for coins with relatively large mintages. But for 2500 coins that is a slam dunk sellout, there would be little reason to retool and set up machinery more than once. That said, the Mint is not exactly known for making sense. Given the use of the word 'shipment' I wonder if the coins are packaged off site. I know the Mint owns property a few blocks East of the primary Mint location on Sussex Drive so maybe they consider it to be a 'shipment' from the Minting location to the packaging/shipping location. Edited to correct mintage number.

A coin like this one geared towards a mc reward, one would expect the whole lot will be struck in one process, retooling the presses to strike in batches lacks common sense when you know it's a sure sellout, but who knows with the RCM. Most likely missing packaging material for the long wait

Just another mystery of the mint I suppose. It just seems never do their employees give customers a straight answer. A totally off-the-wall guess but on the other hand, nothing would really surprise me. What If RCM realized the diameter was incorrect part way through and is awaiting the proper size planchet.

Yes Silveroid, I really like your imagination! Maybe we can start a rumour? And what a dilemma that would create -- exchange the wrong-sized LofP for a correct one....or keep it and hope the error will skyrocket in value.....?

I would imagine the coin would be worth significantly more if they did that, who knows how many are currently in collectors hands.

No, understanding the mint, they actually will leave it as-is.
But still the mystery - why the size has been changed?
Mint was able to not keep a size format for different series / groups: the last one, that I have in mind: Polar Bear Proof (similar to Bullion series) was 1.5oz Arctic Fox Proof was 1oz (while for bullion still 1.5oz) 3-rd and 4-th Proof coins even haven't been released.
Untamed Animals - wasn't the first 40mm, while the rest 38mm?

Often it's the details that make tall tales more believable. So here goes, adding..... The mintage of the Voyageur was 2,100 and the LofP is 2,800 --- have I got that right? So the story, RCM held a brainstorming session, sales were down, MC members were becoming grumpy and dissatisfied. Something was needed to spark Renewed interest and turn things around, but what? Ah ha! An error, a very obvious error. The First time RCM had ever made this sort of error - - a coin that's the wrong size. 700 were specially minted, to be followed by 2,100 of the proper sized coin, unchanged mintage from the previous. Lots of excitement was generated, who has an error, keep it or not. But of course nobody would ever suspect this mistake was intentional, just another of RCM's routine and predictable Glitches. A Brilliant plan for RCM to pull off, I'd say!

All RCM bullion coins are only sold through dealer networks

Quote:Silveroid, that 1.5 oz polar bear coin was a commissioned coin by some store (i cannot remember the name) it was never sold on the RCM site that's truth "Lear Capital" - these words come to my mind But RCM, in parallel, issued Proof series with the same design. And distributing directly and via dealers. So the Polar Bear Proof coin was 1.5oz (priced CAD 124 - after discounted) and the Arctic Fox (2014) was already 1oz (CAD 80 or 90) Added: As per design, the Polar Bear was very "schematic" and Proof Finish didn't add to it, but was first RCM 1.5 oz While Arctic Fox - nicely done, easily compares with 2011-2013 Bullion Wildlife series (wish they have Proof versions).

It's really odd that some folks ordered and received 6 or 7 of these things, yet others have had ordered cancelled or not yet fulfilled. The Mint really is a unique kind of organization.

@CC-Ottawa - The assumption being "they" ordered them all through RCM as a single subscriber. Not so. RCM and my rep very clear it was one per household. All multiples were cancelled. But I totally agree with you "The Mint really is a unique kind of organization. "
