I just came across this while looking for something else on ebay.
The cost is about half of what I paid for my actual proof Morgan dollar that is "only" graded PR63. I know it's not really a proof, but man, what a beauty!
I'd advise you to hold your horses and wait for a better one. I don't think that piece is all that nice for the MS-66 grade, and the price is up there.
The 1881-S and the 1880-S are common are common in P-L. Deep Mirror Proof-Like is toughter. That coin has good contrast between the devices and the fields, but too many marks.
You know those coins are conditionally scarce examples of very common Morgans. You can buy an 1881CC Morgan in MS65 for $900 maybe. The mintage is only 296,000. There are quite a few other Morgans with mintage of less than one million than can be had in MS for less than $2000. Morgans with mintage of 20,000,000 have not much chance of big time appreciation. If you ever buy a Morgan and hold it for 30 years you hope it will be more valuable when and if you sell it. There is a big market for mint condition Morgans but they don't have to be proofs.
