But this is also done to a coin, not to a planchet and then struck. We have already determined the OP's coin was an incomplete planchet before it was struck. The triangular notch represents where a piece of metal was snipped from the coin metal strip (or a blank or a planchet) to test its composition and physical properties. Report this Post to the Staff
