I found this dime from 1968 and it's missing the 8 if you look at it close with a jeweler's glass you can see a faint 8.I google it and didn't find anything about an 8 missing .here is a pic.if this was an error would this be a really rare coin or does this happen a lot. Sorry I'm a newbie to coins

Is this a proof like (PL) coin? It seems kind of shiny. I agree that it was most likely struck through something, most likely grease.

Or, this being a Canada dime, could be slush

Yes, very possible a Grease Filled Die has caused that on the date.
If you can show us larger photos we will be able to help you more.

As stated by Apitrix the cause is a filled die, adds no real value, but does add collectible interest to an otherwise undesirable coin.
Is it nickel or silver? Check with a magnet.
Is it a US strike or Canadian strike?

I have a 1942 dime with the "2" filled with grease. No one but me wanted it and I only had to pay $3 US and it was in an ANACS holder VF30 Details (Cleaned). I personally like grease filled errors -- its one of the few errors that I can find that others have overlooked when I search a hoard of coins.
