I was going through all my 2016 Baby gift sets (which I bought a lot of with the 3-coin deal from RCM)

One toonie stood out amongst all the others. It has this satin-y finish. Usually 2016 toonie have a mirror finish, but the finish on this particular toonie has a sheen that is reminiscent of 1967 Circulation coinage

Does this mean my coin was a first strike or something? I don't think the coin will show up well on a photo but anyone in Markham is welcome to come and take a look at it :) If I were to grade it with someone, what are some potential remarks it would have for being different?

I tried taking photos but my phone's camera is really crappy.

All I can describe is the obverse looks like this:

The reverse looks normal with a mirror finish.

It may caused by the plastic. I have seen the similar 'finish' at post office, on several coins on the sets.

I know what you mean by the plastic. Sometimes the plastic is clear and sometimes has a texture.

But in this case, I removed the coin and the finish on this toonie is just different from any other toonie I've seen.

I'm going to attempt to take a clear pic tomorrow and scan it.

Got photos.

It looks beautiful in person. When you shine it under a light, the entire surface just glows as this beautiful satin surface. The Queen's bust side looks like a normal toonie however.

When placed beside a normal toonie, the difference is stark. The normal toonie has a completely mirror finish.

If I were to submit this to ICCS, would I be able to get it a special designation at all?

It's not unusual for MS toonies to have a satiny appearance. I've really no idea what causes it other than I've wondered if the effect is from a freshly oiled press that combines the two separate pieces,
