Jbuck......
Yeah, that threw me too.....they list a Flying Eagle cent and then 4 Flying Eagle Dimes ! ?......and in the book, with the years I listed above, there "are" very old dimes with eagles on them.....but they're NOT referred to as "Flying Eagles".....so I don't know what to think about the use of that termanology (espicially if it's used incorrectly!)
I didn't think about taking pics of coins that I DON'T BUY ? Hummm...surely they wouldn't mind I guess....i'll think about that...
But I AM going after that 1793 Cent first.......and if I don't get it...well....i'll still get something interesting I hope.....gotta save my money for the Cent though.....I can't bid on other stuff until that comes and goes.
If it ends up being a counterfeit.....I'm gonna die !

Now back to business...

I think if anything this tells me that the people holding the sale really have no idea what they have! This could mean you will get lucky, or it means it is all junk. You won't know until you get there! Just make sure you take your Red Book! Also see if you can download and print a few hi-res photos of EAC's to reference!

While there, take a lot of pictures if you can! If you get questioned, tell them you are writing a book about estate sales!

4 Flying Eagle "Dimes" ??......... (1829-1837) ......is that the years they mean on these dimes ?

Those years refer to Capped Bust dimes(reduced diameter) but the eagle on the reverse is definitely not flying as it is perched on an olive branch and arrows. Anyone that is familiar with coins would not call them that, especially if they actually took the time to look at the coin.

Well.......I just hope I don't "WIN" a counterfeit coin !........I don't know why this seems to be a gamble that I'm willing to make either......the higher it goes, the more expensive the mistake could be ! ...AYE YA YAI !
I don't think I get to take it "back" to the family who is selling/moving/or had a death in the family, and say........hey I bought this and it turns out it's a counterfeit ! So, I'll be needing my money back ! .......or......that auctioneer tricked me ! This is fake ! I want a full refund !
So, it's a "assumed risk" I guess.....(or assumed stupidity!)....please no one agree with that one!
But, I could still come back empty handed.......I may get "out-bid" by coin collectors from all over, flooding into this auction who knows ?!?
So everybody keep it a secret and don't tell anyone okay ?

Man !....I'm getting more and more nervous with this "prospect"......what if I have to pay $500.00 for this coin and it "isn't" legit ?
I'm now worried that if I find myself there ......I "will" get this coin and it could be a bad/stupid mistake.
I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT I OUGHT TO DO !......stay away or go for it......
This could be a golden opportunity to buy something really cheap that's worth twice or three times what I've paid for it ! (or even MORE !..average/good condition lists for $3,000.00!)
Or.....I end up with a $2.00 counterfeit coin and a very expensive/hard lesson.............

Are you willing to gamble $500 on the coin? If you don't care about the money and can eat the loss then bid on it. If not, then don't bid on it. If I was in your situation, I would be an max amount that factors in the possibility that it's a fake. If it goes over that amount, I'd walk away. Think of it this way, spend $500 and risk getting a fake. OR take the $500 save it and save up some money over time and then buy yourself a coin that you know isn't fake. I think the second option makes more sense since your willing to spend so much.

Amazon....Condor..
G4 is $2,000.00- $3,500.00 for the "Wreath-all kinds" and "Liberty Cap" prospectively.
Auction Bill says......"1793 Liberty 1 Cent - Good Condition"......so I don't know how to take their opinion of the condition of this coin.....(probably on the "lessor" side, but who knows?)

$500 would be 1/4th of the way or just think of the other coins you can buy with it.

$2000 sounds about right for a wreath, maybe a bit high. $3,500 for a cap is low. I would think a true Good could bring $5K. And you never even mentioned the 1793 chain. Goods on those have been over $2000 (and they made six times as many of those as they did the caps.)

As far as fakes go in these things You basicly have four types,

1. crude light weigh modern fakes that shouldn't fool anybody. Most of these are poor cast fakes with a plain edge and an obvious seam.

2. Electrotypes These are usually overweight, often with plain edges, and the seam is usually were the edge meets the rim. Really good electrotypes will even have the edge lettering. The good thing about these is that the electrotypes are usually worth three to five hundred dollars

3. Liberty caps altered from 1794's. Usually eay to spot because the LIBERTY n the 1793's is made with small letters and all of the 1794's used larger letters. Also the 93 caps have a beaded border, while the 94' have a dentical or toothed border.

4. Altered Gallery mint copies. These are dangerous but fortunately not very commonplace. Watch for a large dig in the field on the back where COPY has been removed, and examine the cap on the pole closely as that is where they put COPY when it is on the obverse. Also check the edge for where the Galler Mint's logo may have been buffed off. The Gallery mint 93 cap was designed to look like the S-15 variety which has a two leaf cluster below OF. All of the others have three leaf clusters. So if it is a cap and has a three leaf cluster below OF yo know it isn't a Gallery Mint piece. (If it does ave a two leaf clster and you can't find any evidence of the word copy being removed, and you hava good feeling that it is real BUY IT! A S-15 in Good is around $25K.) On the chain cent COPY was usually in the field at 10:00 on the reverse. I don't know where it was on the wreath cents.

Anyone else have any more advice/information?

Oh and there is also the chace you may find yourself looking at a 1793 Conder token that they are calling a "cent". They are both copper and about the same size. I've seen it happen before

Condor.........
MASSIVE pieces of information you have provided to me !! THAT has been what I've needed on this coin...THANK YOU !
Now, I feel more "armed" and prepared ! I'd been "waffling" on whether to go or not.....cause I knew I would go after it if I found myself there!......at least up to the $500.00 range. Now I feel more comforted about this opportunity. Thanks again !

Hey, so, if I do go.....and I do "win" the coin......I suppose the right thing to do would be to send it off and have it "slabbed & graded"......I've never done this with any of my coins before.?
Basically to have it "professionally graded and identified" ?
I've got some coins worth over a thousand, but with all of the intricacies of a coin of this type and with this much age.....and the need to prove it isn't a counterfeit......
I guess I answered my own question with that....yes....send it off and have it properly identified and graded.
That's "after" I post the pics up here OF COURSE !...
