Couple of more findings last night 1943 D Steel Penny proof? For comparison with other steel penny. 1935 Mercury dime. First found during CRH.

BTW, it has the "W", but I can't find any information on it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Nice finds, I believe the weak E on the reverse of the 83 p is due to die wear, I have many of those with that issue

Quote:Have you weighed your 1983 cents? Read this article about wrong planchets: http://www.numismaticnews.net/artic...ent_turns_up Yes. I usually put them aside and weight them after confirming if any of them are doubled die. I noticed that most are around 2.5-2.56 grams, which would be zinc, but I did find one that weighted 3.09 grams, which I am guessing is copper. I also drop them on hard wood and if copper you can hear this sharp douns that you get when you drop any penny that is pre-1982. I say 1982 because some 1982 small date are made of zinc while the large date is made out of copper.

Don't know about the cent but the 1935 dime was made in Philadelphia. The W on the obverse is the artist's initial.

The 1943-D Steel cent appears to be what they call "reprocessed". Basically it has been replated to look shiny and new. This actually detracts from the value of the coin in my opinion, since it has been modified post mint. It could not be a proof in any case, as proofs were only minted in Philadelphia that year. Keep looking, you seem to be finding some good stuff!

So I bought a roll of wheat pennies from my local Coin Shop and to my surprise, my first 1909 VDB.
