No he's not. He cancelled all the bids first. There was no winner.

What a doofus he was!
Might be wrong but it sure reminds me of a deliberate advertising ploy, a fleeting moment of "See what I have here!" now open to under the table buyers.

bobby131313...you're wrong ebay DOES charge you fees on whatever the high bid was at the point where you cancel the bids. And for an auction that's 9% I believe. So yes, he WILL have a $500 bill for this exercise in stupidity.

He may have lost money by not selling them but we have all lost money at one point or another simply buying them. Still, a $500 loss is nothing compared to what he'd lose letting them go for $5000. Who knows how high the bids might've gone though.

Maybe he saw the comments on this site and realized he wouldn't get anywhere the price he wanted

As a dealer I had a snipe entered for 18k.
Yes it would take forever to sell all the coins individually, but they are the right price range for most collectors.
Great marketing ploy though, I'm sure he got a lot of interested parties phone numbers, I know he will hear from me

So his/her argument would be ebay should have removed it. Quote:

Anyone having accumulated a collection worth $110k certainly would be aware of what a reserve bid means. Probably of no coincidence, but I crossed paths with a Quebec ebay seller who admitted using shills as opposed to placing reserve bids, apparently because of the added cost. I'm not an ebay seller, just curious if this is true or not.

Thanks cspence, I kept bidding, BigSilver kept topping me, so I stopped at $4600 to wait. It is nice to know I would not have made it, $18k is alot farther than I was going to go, but would have been really sad to lose by a $50 increment.

Yup, I was going to around $9k, even if I had lost a bit of money (which I don't think was the case here), the fun of going through something of that size would have been great.
such is life.

There most certainly is a fee for this guy and his auction adventure. CV is pretty close to right about 9 per cent from ebay. That said he can pick up the phone and talk to ebay about it . There are ways ...... This could also be a great ploy to advertise his stuff. Someone is sure to contact him about buying the whole deal. 110K so-called TRENDS for decent material should net him around 30 to 40 K . Especially if it is all ICCS graded . There are dealers around with lots of cash and patience. There is money to be made even in this down Canadian Coin Market.

I'm surprised that he didn't seek expert advice from anyone. You drop it off at The RCNA auction or Coin EXPO auction and he'd have received a very fair market value and the items would have received a proper exposure from the coin community. The auction house would have helped him sort things through and then group items as necessary and as recommended. I don't get this guy... ..(money to burn...) . .

As I said earlier, I'm very confident he would have received some bids in the 20K to 30K range.
There's still a few heavy hitters out there who would jump on this coin lot for that price.
Still would have been a big loss to the seller and a good day's profit for the buyer.

I checked this seller's buying history on ebay and it seems he's one of Asyn's best customers. Lots of Asyn purchases. He has also purchased many coins from the next 10 ebay sellers you would think of for raw overgraded coins.

I think people put these things out there and hpe for the best or to test the market. He seemed to be well aware he had to end it before the 24 hour mark. If it's within the rules, then it's his right. I hate when buyers feel somehow entitled to auctions that are cancelled or errored.
