I have 28 Ben Franklin half dollars. The dates are from 1950 to 1963, but it's not a complete set. The detail on most of the Liberty bells are pretty defined. Again I am weighing my options, silver value, face value or hold onto for a complete set. Complete sets of circulated Franklin's actually sell very well, as long as the coins are not cleaned, and have a minimum grade of EF-40 or so.
Depending on how many different you have I would consider completing the set if I were you. It's a fun, inexpensive set to build that has the additional advantage of containing quite a chunk of silver.
It's one of the few sets with lots of silver that doesn't have any killer expensive key dates.

So, what are the questions?
The 1953-D you posted is circulated, looking XF-ish and original. Can't see the bell lines but only uncirculated coins can earn the FBL superlative. In this condition your coin trades for little more than bullion, maybe in the $7-8 range.
Some Franklins in gem BU with full bell lines sell for thousands but lower MS coins are very affordable. It's an easy set to complete, if you don't require those bell lines!

First question: Do you like Franklin halves enough to want to complete the set? Fast and inexpensive, but do you feel drawn to the series? |

I'm trying to see if it's worth its weight in silver, according to a site that I got from another member the value for the silver if I find a buyer would be $163.96. I'm trying to just filter out the error and rare coins from the immense collection I got from Christmas. I'd like to eventually use my ping pong table again  |

It looks like you have common curculated Franklyn halves that are worth there value as silver. You would have to have uncurculated examples to be worth more.

If your coins are like the one you just posted , then my advice to you would be wait 4-8 weeks then go ahead and use your ping pong table again after you turn in those nasty looking Frankie's for melt . It's just a thought ,but maybe after Trump takes over, Silver and Gold might wake up from their coma .   |

Franklin halves in my mind are always worth more than their melt weight. They aren't making new ones and the ones that are out there are can only go down in quality. They have a classic design and will always have demand.

Complete the set. Franklins are unique coins and 90% silver.

Franklins are one of my favorite coins to collect, I have a complete set and love them. I would definitely complete the set and replace as you get better grades.

If you got an "immense collection", I wouldn't even worry about completing the set. I would just keep anything silver regardless.
