With the price of silver now the vast majorities of shops would be offering around 8x-9x face. If you went to a pawn shop the offer could be anywhere between 5x-7x face. Finally if you went to a gold & silver shop you may be offered 2x-3x face (if they all follow my local buying rates). If you are making an offer between 10x or 11x face you are still giving the seller more than they will be offered anywhere else and saving a few bucks. The worst the person could do is say no and if you really wanted it you could still pay the original price. |

Okay, I'll see if I can negotiate a bit lower price than 12x face and I'll let you know how it works out.

The seller happened to drop by my house a moment ago. We settled on $2.37 each for 212 coins, for a total of $500.
We both feel we got a good deal.

I think you did great! Let us know if you find any '32's or varieties-and as someone mentioned,if you wait you may get it cheaper or you may end up paying more you just never know but with that silver is up over 2% today

I bought about 75 face a few months ago, found a 42 DDO that I sold for $20. I'd go through it just for the varieties and semi keys! |

I'm new to quarters so I've no idea what varieties to look for. It'll take me a few weeks to make time to look into this, but I'll definitely do so.
Any good links to a varieties website?

The seller lives on the east coast and I on the west. I vacation on the east coast about 1 week each year, so I only see this person for a short time each year because he's a family friend. If I saw him more often, I'd likely own more of his coins.
I'm fortunate he's interested in selling to me. 2 years ago I bought about 100 Franklin and WL halves from him for $5 each. He's steadily divesting and selling his coin collection to me. He said next time he sees me he'll offer his barbers and pre-40 WLs to me, which I'm looking forward to.
I'm certain many of you will find a good deal soon if you keep your eyes open...good luck to all, and thanks again for your input!

I must be a silver quarter magnet at the moment. I went to a flea market today and found an uncirculated bicentennial 40% proof and a 40% business strike in MS (not certified) for $1 each! This was at a pawn shop booth where 40% halves and 90% Roosevelt dimes were priced at silver melt value, which I thought was relatively reasonable. |
