Why is it that people will pay twenty dollars for a silver round that can be bought elsewhere for say, seventeen dollars. I see stuff like this frequently & cant make any sense of it.

It's odd though because I'll see a lot of say five silver eagles that are readily available online for cheaper & with free shipping from a place like provident or Jim & yet they always seem to sell on ebay. I can't possibly see any point to spending the extra money.

Perhaps people who are (?unreasonably) afraid of seller misdeeds might appreciate the insurance value of buying through eBay/PayPal, even if from the same seller, and at higher cost.
Cheers,

A person is smart. People are dumb. ebay has a lot of people shopping there all of the time.

For a lot of people, I assume, ebay is a one-stop shop and will not bother looking into other sources that may take more searching/time to save a couple bucks.

I see the answer as trying to find out why the masses choose to do anything they do.
We humans are illogical as a whole.
The day I accepted that as fact was the day a lot of life's questions were answered. Our society has been brought up in an education system training them what to think instead of how to think. This is why the saying that common sense is uncommon is, unfortunately, true.

Some people that live out in the sticks or boonies have no local options to buy some stuff other than online. ebay happens to be their "online" store of choice.

ebay provides a lot of buyer protections that some may feel is worth a little more.

Are there any better sites to buy from the will ship to APO/FPO military mail boxes? I am in Korea and use an APO box that most won't or don't know how to ship to. I find that ebay is much easier to deal with and safer; however, I always review my BRB and actual sale prices before I buy anything on ebay.

Why? 1. Security of investment: People love the return policy. It protects them. A few dollars is not their primary concern. 2. A lot of people go by name recognition and ebay is well known.

All the money on my PayPal account is profit from selling things on ebay, some of which sold for far more than I expected. So I don't mind paying slightly over the odds for a coin on ebay from time to time, as I'm spending my own profits.

You really get a better feel for the inconsistencies of prices when you check completed sales and listings. Although all MS-65 1942-S Walking Liberty halves (as an example) are not the same, it's odd not only for sales, but for sellers, who list at $450 When the sales range is $225-$310. You can also get super lucky when someone who hasn't checked selling prices and puts a BIN out at a huge discount of the normal selling price. That's what keeps the buyers on ebay.

What I can't understand is someone purchasing an overpriced product currently being offered by and readily available at the US Mint.
