Quote: I would love it to be true, at least for circulation cents, but it is probably just speculation at best. It's just Fake News jbuck!

Yes, speculation at best, fake news at worst.

I go back far enough to when you could still buy penny candy, not just one piece but two or three for a penny. Hard to image the passing of the penny.

The cent needs to go NIFC at the very least.
The nickel should go as well, but unlike the cent a composition change could save it.

Anymore, when I have change coming back, they will round it down and not give me pennies. Ninety six cents becomes ninety five and I get back a nickel. A business don't want to deal with the pennies. seems the penny has outlived its usefulness.

We ended up with a bank wrapped roll from Subway today of 2017 P cents. Quote: The nickel should go as well, but unlike the cent a composition change could save it. I wish nickels would end rather than end up with plated zinc 5 cent coins .... yuk!

I agree on the plated nickel, better to disappear than become zinc.

The U.S. Mint reports that so far 1,182,800,000 2017 Philadelphia Cents have been struck!so sooner or later we're all going to end up with some!

Quote: sooner or later we're all going to end up with some! Maybe. I have a feeling that the "one-year mintmark" thing is or will be a huge incentive for hoarding. Possibly greater than most or all past incentives considering the long history of the Philly cent without a mintmark. In some way, I think the mint did a service to the hobby with this move. Quote: The nickel should go as well, but unlike the cent a composition change could save it. That could be pretty interesting. Maybe a nickel with a pre-1982 cent composition? The composition/weight would be worth less than face and could open a whole new chapter for nickels! Realistically however, that won't happen.

There is someone in my area offering to buy $25 boxes for $40 each. Just to be clear, not me and not my ad. I found a pretty good looking Philly P in change, put it in a 2x2 for my album. That's enough.
