The pictures were originally posted on a Greek coin forum, which is why the Greek one is emphasized. Someone then posted the pics on the CU forum in this thread and they've spread from there. I pinched a couple and printed them in my local coin club magazine last month. Besides the American coins and the Greek one, there's also a German New Guinea 5 marks, a British crown, a Belgian 5 francs... I see they're diversifying away from the usual Trade dollars and Mexican pieces of eight.

Lets just keep devaluing the American Dollar. They couldn't make enough bogus coins to make up for what we are costing them. Jim

Having worked for a company that primarily bought brake parts from China I can shed some light I hope. 1. You have to teach ethics and morality to children as it will be ingrained in some. The U.S. educational system abandoned them years ago. China hasn't had any since the communist took over. They have to be trained as to what we in the west expect. 2. Most of their economy is primitive as the photos show. Their economy is very labor intensive and is just starting to automate. 3. There are many bottom feeder outfits over there who will tell you they can make whatever it is that you are seeking and the quality is reflective of their bottom feeder methods. 4.So many things of our economy is made in China, we don't control their economy they control ours. They could shut down the U.S. any time they want. We got an original equipment caliper for a Chevy 1500 series pick-up with the label reading made in China. I can't verify but I wouldn't doubt that Ford and Chrysler are having brake items made there. Happy motoring to the next coin show. 5. Counterfeiting will get further out of control before it gets under control. It's very frustrating. Enjoy this hobby while you can.

IVE GOT IT!!
The Chinese can buy all the US silver at $10/oz, manufacture $5 and $10 coins about the size of a half or whole US dollar, and then pay themselves back our debt to them !!

This forum is beginning to teach me more than coin info. Please explain why we owe China? Because they manufacture inexpensive goods, or that they practically own 1/3 of the country through investing. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I love to learn BTW, I would love to visit The Great Wall one day , which CANNOT be seen from space

That depends on whom they are trying to fool. Numismatically-challenged tourists wandering the markets and tourist traps of China can be fooled by the silliest and crudest-looking of copies. ebay suckers and bargain-hunters can be fooled by something that simply looks right (by the time they find out the weight is wrong, it's too late to complain). Coins made to fool the experts are made to the correct weight, with the correct alloy (or an alloy of exactly the same density), using their highest-quality dies. Only careful die analysis, vigilant monitoring of sales from China and/or heavy scientific gear like an XRF spectrometer could detect them. Remember, the best counterfeits are the ones that haven't been discovered yet.
