Note how the rim presses in above the last 'T' on TRUST. That tells me it was done after the strike. PSD contact on the edge of the coin altered the edge.

Both coins have sustained contact damage, the rims are deformed.

I understand that, But how does a Cud get formed ? This is my question. The rim is not flarred as one would suspect. The rim is not raised and shows no sign of being damaged!

the damage on the edge, the force had to protrude somewhere... clearly not round anymore

Quote:how does a Cud get formed ? A Cud is caused by a die break affecting the face and shank of the die. When the coin is struck, the metal expands to fill the void in the die which results in an amorphous lump on the coin. Quote: The rim is not raised and shows no sign of being damaged! I would strongly disagree with that statement, both rims are clearly deformed and display signs of contact damage.

Here is what Bio was mentioning: Note how the edge is missing from these dies. That is where a Cud will be formed when these dies are used.

I'm intrigued by the line between S and T in TRUST on the second coin. Is that raised or incuse?

Druu that area is raised above the field. I think I might have misspoke. I know the rim is damaged on the obverse, but not on the reverse. To me the coin still is round. I would think that the rim would be pushed up more like the first coin in this thread. But I do appreciate everyone's thoughts!

It is still a damaged coin. How many sides need to be damaged, before the coin is considered damage. One hit.

Are there any known edge strike throughs? So that I know what to look for.
