Though I'm not much of a poster in this thread, I do stop by once every few days to see whats going on and, I must say, I regularly look forward to your responses Chuck. Many questions I have had have been answered by you and others at some point here on CCF and have saved myself (and everyone else) the time and trouble of asking a repeat by simply scrolling down the page. One example would be a cent wiht no reverse--I still have it because it is pretty cool, but I now know it's not nearly as rare as I thought it was when I found it years ago.

Keep up the good work Chuck! IF you don't spot me in this forum again for a while you guys are all doing your job and keeping the community informed and educated. Thanks a bunch!

From One "CHUCK" to another "CHUCK"- I'm also glad you didn't "CHUCK"
it in

I, for one, want and appreciate "EXPERT" answers to my questions regardless of whether its what I wanted to hear or not!!

Thanks for staying the course.

WOW, sure a lot of items covered here.
Chuck, I too am glad you are here. REALLY. In the past we've crossed paths a few times in a sort of argumentive way but in reality you must know everyone has their own opinion. I have mine when you state something I disagree with and I, like you, blurt it out regardless of any pending arguments. Anytimee anyone has a technical question in regards to a cent (penny for us old people) I always recommend they contact you here on one your web site. This is due to exactly what you have said here. YOU do or usually do know the answers. I would never attempt to think of anyone with your knowledge of coins to be wrong, just a little to one sided in some respects. As NGiles pointed out you must admit yourself you are a little on the blunt, arrogent side. An example of just that is one of your statements here about people that try to spout off their knowledge. This usually sets you off with those rude statements. Try to remember that some of them really believe what they are saying. I know as you say, when your right, and you know your right, you want everyone to know that. But try to remember that not everyone is always right about everything. Actually with your vast knowledge and experience in this field, if anyone should be a little more tollerent with us not so well versed in Numismatics, it should be you.
You have a fantastic web site, I have both of your books, you almost always have the answers on coins here. I think everyone here appreciates having you here so we can all learn. You have no idea how much I've learned from your web site and books and I've been coin collecting for well over 60 years.
Thanks again for just being here to help. And keep on with the books and a great web site.
HOWEVER, if I think your not exactly 100% right, expect me to also be blunt. From a true fan.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your suggestions...

I like the smilie idea, often though I use the quick reply and I don't have the smilies right there. In any case, they do add a little to the post that helps to brighten up a quick one.

Thanks Again,
Bill

It had nothing to do with any one person making me "mad" - I don't get mad here. Nothing to be mad about. Generally everything I post here has to do with the coins, not the people...it's the people who do not like how I answer. Perhaps that requires some re-examining, but the last thing I will do is start answering with what people want to hear if it's anything other than the truth about what they have.

Foundinrolls,

I was not meaning any disrespect. I was making light of an observation. The two of you are passionate about your oppinions, and I have learned much from them, however you seem to get heated up very quickly. I am not trying to say that what you are saying is wrong, I merely think that there is a more beneficial way of saying it. You may not always be the one who starts the argument, but walking away from one often says more than any words can. I think the two of you are very good at stating your oppinion and giving advice. Your first statements are usually well thought out and very precise, they would be just as beneficial if you left them alone after that.

Newer people to the forum might question your expertise on account of they way you present yourself. Presentation is the key to success in any field. Would you rather see the Doctor Who is clean and pleasant, or the one who hasn't showered in a week and preforms surgery in the back of his van? It doesn't matter which one is better, it's the one who presents himself in a professional manner that I would choose.

I understand that the two of you are investing a lot of time here, and I do not think your short answewrs are rude. I am very gratefull for your advice and participation, I just hope you can keep giving it with a .

One of the things that is so very exciting about this hobby, to me, is finding one of the well known rare varieties, DDO, etc, like the 55 DDO cent, 72 DDO cent, 37D 3 legged buffalo, the most recent "godless/dateless" Washington Presidential dollar and more. Because of the huge values on these and other variety coins, I think this is a major stimulatory force in coin collecting. Everyone would love to find that rariety, or be the first to discover a new one. I am in this group. I think looking for these rare coins is a great driving force in the hobby and attracts so many people (look at all the Presidential dollar collectors because of the godless error!). This can only be good for the hobby, I think. But some people want so badly to believe they have a rare error/variety and simply will not listen to sound advice from experts, because they want to go on believing what they believe. This is just pure stubbornness, plain and simple.

One thing I don't have a lot of is time to be reading entire books on every coin type I collect, though maybe I should. This coin forum, which I found by accident one day last November, provides enormous knowledge for me and I especially respect the opinions of those on this forum who I consider experts. Chuck, you are one of these people. And for all your advice and time both direct and indirect, I thank you. Most of your advice wasn't in response to anything I posted, but I read a lot of the posts on varieties with great interest and always hope to see a CC response that basically nails the coffin shut on the topic.

Until I read a lot of posts in the Variety Forum here, I had never even heard of " Machine Doubling". I have probbly 20-30 cents that I had held for many years thinking they were worth at least a little something, because I say doubling of the 9, etc. They were quite uncommon to find in all the pennies I've searched, but common enough for me to realize they couldn't be extremely rare. But I had hoped, like many of you all probably hope, that I had a nice group of truly rare variety coins. But sound advice on topics on this forum steered me right.

And to all others on this forum, I thank you as well for your advice and opinions, and the time you take in responding. You all have taught me a great deal in a very short time frame. I am fully enriched for having known you.

One of the things that gets lost a lot in typing responses is appreciation. You knod your head and say "they're right", but don't bother with a thank you or words of appreciation. The other thing that gets lost is short responses are often do to busy people having many other things to do and can't spend the time to tell you their whole thought process. Day in and day out I deal with folks by email who are very short- don't take it personally. People are busy and have other things to do than to spend 24/7 on this forum.

Again to all of you, Chuck included, THANK YOU.

Chuck,
I just wanted to say I appreciate your experience, and that you're willing to share it with collectors here.

As I'm sure you know...the Internet is often a place where people try to outdo each other.
And it takes me a while to tell what a person's made of. And in your case--it's the "right stuff".
