better photos with the background cut out, leaving only the coin, might be helpful.

Looks like gunk or glue stuck to it. Have you tried to remove it?

I definitely tried to remove it. It is metal. I'll try to get some better pics. However I think meadowview might be right. Looks more like it was shot with a bb.

I thought if anything maybe a die breakage of some sort. but starting to think that's not it.

If it was damaged by a rounded punch (incuse into the coin) then the devices on the reverse would be flattened. So if we could see the reverse, that would be a help to us to see if it was damaged.
