If you scratch a coin at an angle, it will produce a vertical displacement of metal that appears to be a crack. A nail would most likely not be sharp enough to make a thin gouge like that, you would need to use a knife. I have no doubt at all that your coin has been damaged.

A box knife could make that mark. But when you look deeper into the line is makes, you can see a squared cut and metal striation lines.
