Even the makers of products get mixed up. APMEX has some 4 troy ounce silver ASE replicas that say ONE QUARTER POUND on them. They are not a quarter pound in either system. Three troy ounces is one quarter troy pound and 4 troy ounces is about 0.23 avoirdupois pounds. http://www.apmex.com/product/83799/...le-w-box-coa

Quote: Of course I know Spot is more!! Spot is spot. It is the price of one Troy ounce. And put Troy gram out of your mind. There is no such thing. Whoever made the OP's round marked it with a unit of measure that doesn't exist

This is why we buy those little scales and weigh our coins in grams. Quote: How many troy ounces are in a regular gallon? Depends -- US gallons or UK gallons?

@mark1959, all this confusion is why we should only use Metric.

@oriole. I used to disagree, but I've come to believe that the US should switch.
BUT...precious metal rounds and coins are still sized to the Troy ounce in countries that are on the metric system. That goofy system does not appear to be going away anytime soon.

Is it this one? http://www.apmex.com/product/67346/...ffalo-nickelThe round says "troy gram." The specifications say "gram." Apparently, whoever made it didn't know the units. All grams are the same (try finding anything legitimate with "troy gram" on it). For some reason I can only see the APMEX pics from Google search but they don't load on the APMEX page and they are "out of stock." Curious... Just weigh it and convert to ozt and you'll have your answer.

Mark1959 said: Quote: That makes no sense!! If 31.1 grams = a TROY once then why would 28 grams (like you imply) also = a troy ounce? Time for a mathematician to prove this!! I didn't say that 28 grams would equal a troy ounce, it would equal the other kind of ounce. What I said, which others seemed to catch on quickly to was that the grams are the same... the ounce that they make up is different. Therefore the attribution "troy" should relate to the ounce not the gram because the distinction lies with the ounce not the gram...

@scmidty, I agree that troy ounces will be here for a while. @mark1959, you would need to replace your 2.5 gallon tanks with 9.46 liter tanks.

Quote: How many troy ounces are in a regular gallon? Depends on the octane of the gas. Maybe 87 octane is the regular gallon and 93 octane is the "Troy" gallon
