Civil War Token, A Little Info Please

Liverpool Pillar of the Community Canada 576 Posts	Posted 01/31/2017 12:23 pm I've just recently picked up what I believe is a civil war token, its in pretty rough shape. Were there many of these? (not issue but different "coins" from different............) Who made them, merchants? local governments? thanks in advance. The civil war tokens were issued by merchants because of a shortage of circulation coins. There were also civil war political tokens issued by private manufacturers for profit. Generally it is believed there are in excess of 5,000 varieties. Total tokens produced was " probably was on the long side of 50 million."
