Not advertising on the internet and posting in this thread is where I keep mine.

I finally bought a gun safe, after my father rode me for more than 10 years. It's bolted to the floor, you're wasting your time with a safe, if you're not going to have it bolted down. I wouldn't waste my money on anything too small, because you'll eventually run out of room, no matter how large or small your safe is. On the same page as everyone else, DO NOT TELL ANYONE ABOUT YOUR COIN COLLECTION, BIG OR SMALL. Most of the stories you read or hear about, it's almost always someone they knew, that's involved in the theft or loss of coins. Much like some, we are always locked & loaded, along with two very protective dogs.
Keep safe!

I don't know what your financial situation is, but $600 is hardly worth a bank box rental. You probably have TVs and computers worth a lot more. I'd just get a rider on your homeowners insurance. When the collection gets much above $2K, I'd store it in a bank. You can always be compelled to open a safe. We had a report on this forum about the police entering a collectors home on suspicion of drug related activities and breaking into their safe and taking $200K of coins and cash. This could never happen with a bank deposit box as they wouldn't be able to get a court order to get into it.

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone! Lot's of good ideas, I am thinking of getting a gun safe. I have one for my handgun but I have a rifle I could put in it with the coins. My safe deposit box is free but would like to keep the collection at home. I feel I need something that I can lock them in due to I have kids and there getting older and have friends over. I never talk about my collection, only my family know about it and my son has been told not to talk about it. I am calling my insurance agent tomorrow about a rider. Thanks again everyone!

If I disclosed that, it would not be safe anymore.

I keep mine along with documents etc. in a large bank safe deposit box. It costs around $300 a year. Unless you get a really expensive gun safe serious thieves will be able to get into it if they have time. I have a gun safe just to satisfy my wife since she thinks I am a gun nut because I have a shotgun a couple of pistols. It would stop a child or a curious fools from picking up one of my guns, but not a determined thief. The could pry it open and/or pry it from the floor or wall and get into it. I do have alarm system and security cameras, so I would have to be away for a while. If you have kids then you must lock up the guns. As a teenager I got my father's old Walther .32 after he died and I used to shoot it in the backyard to see all the lights in neighborhood come on. It was so old and ammo was so old it almost blew up in my stupid hand.
