Oh man. When I have people over I never ever let them see where I pull stuff out. However one time I was 2x2'ing some coins and I dropped the same Indian Head cent five times in a row... legit. The fifth time, I left it there in anger. Afterwards I felt really bad and looked for it, but never found it again. Feel so bad for the fella.

I have lost pocket pieces over the years. The last one was a 1923 Peace dollar. I once had a $5 Indian half eagle that was so worn the date was gone. It too was a pocket piece lost to time.

I have an 1858 Canadian graded Large Cent VF30 - somewhere. It is probably worth $150. I put it somewhere safe in the house so it was not in easy access for someone to stumble on. I moved it around a few times and it is now in the safe place I put it over a year ago! I have stopped looking for it but I will find it one day when I am sorting through old tax returns or something.

Maybe due to old age, I constantly loose things. They seam to just vanish sometimes. At coin shows I carry a sort of camera type bag. I put any coins I buy in that. Many times at home when I look for those coins, they are just not there. Sort of like magic, they just vanish. Might be falling into another dimension so possibly someday they will all sort of just come back.

Agcoinau, I new at this, but I don't even want to think about how many coins I have just gotten rid of without knowing their true value. I am sure when your not looking for your coins they will turn up.

When I was about 11, I was given an 1857 trime (3 cent silver) by an elderly coin dealer at a local show. It was beautiful; had to be close to BU. I made a little case for it out of ziplock bags and cardboard ... About a year later, I found the empty holder but no trime. Ransacked my room, no luck. Oh well, at least I learned from that and have taken much better care of my coins in the 20 years that followed

AgCoinAu, any luck finding the tokens yet?
Were they in holders or a page?
Hate to sound like a nag, but check all your pockets again and then it's time for spring cleaning.
I hope you find them soon!

Several. One was an 1938 proof set that disappeared for several years. I'm still missing a proof 1902 V nickel, and a William the Conqueror silver penny. I'm sure there are others.

Still haven't come across it as of yet... but it's at least a bit reassuring to know I'm not the only one that's done this.. honestly I beat myself up pretty good about this one as I love the coins and they're what have drawn me towards collecting hudson bay pieces as of late... you'd think if I valued it so much I would've taken better care of it... but the truth is I'm also very impulsive and I KNOW I must've put them down in some really silly spot!
Thank you all for sharing your stories.... perhaps tonight with a calmer mindset I'll go back down to the coin room and have a look again..

Ken Bresset told me a story where a friend of his lost his 1804 dollar for several months. He had forgotten that he had hidden it on top of his China caninet.

When all else fails -- it's time for a re-enactment. When would you like us to come over? If somebody owns a wrinkled trench coat, they get to be Columbo. By the way, I'm might have misplaced a few things but I'm married and I blame my husband for anything that's gone missing. He does the same for me.

I lost two coins as a young boy and it bugs me occasionally to this day. A 1950-D nickle and a 1921 dime, both found going through loose change or rolls. My best finds ever gone forever. Good news is I still have most every coin I deemed worthy to keep, including Wheaties, Indian Head, Steelies, Standing Liberty, Buffalo, Mercury, Franklin, Standing Liberty and so on. Condition was not a priority then, it was all about filling the hole (even if it was bent!). Needless to say, my early collection is not worth much (to me it's priceless). Wish I could have afforded more rolls of silver quarters and halves instead of mostly pennies. Oh, I eventually replaced both coins, but it's not the same.
