Dickson man charged in Adams break-in, theft of rare gold coin
http://www.tennessean.com/story/new...in/97444516/

Quote:
A Dickson man is facing a slew of charges, including aggravated burglary, after Robertson County deputies say he broke into an area home and stole several items, including a rare coin worth more than $10,000.

Janamon Anthaun L. Corlew, 34, is also accused of taking an Amazon Fire tablet and a buck knife from a Kinney's Road home near Adams to a Clarksville pawn shop, where he sold them last month, according to an affidavit from the Robertson County General Sessions Court Clerk's office.

An 1880 Half Eagle ($5) gold piece would have to be in extremely high grade to be worth $10K?

Glad that the suspect is in custody and will be held to account for their crimes.

The cops most always do a great job of catching these low lifes, but the broken judicial system of catch and release is the real problem. If the answer is more jails, I'm all in, but let's stop letting these guys off so easy, lock them up for a long, long time!

Yeah below is another instance of a collection being stolen by an habitual burglar.

4 times convicted and he only gets 18 months? It doesn't take rocket science to predict that this dude is going to keep doing what he is doing upon his next release.

Which is why we need to take the punishment out of Judges hands... All Legislatures have to do is insert language into laws that state, this is crime, this is the time, no exceptions, no from this time up to this time... Pick one time you do and be done with it...

The problem is we as a society are too lax in punishing people for the crimes they commit... If I had my own country, this guy wouldn't have committed a second burglary...

IMHO, this "solution" is not so simple. Having worked in the system for decades, and being a collector myself, I surely share the frustration. All too often, plea bargains are struck and rubber-stamped by a judge. Many factors tend to influence cases, oftentimes to the benefit of the offender. If there were procedural issues that could result in a guilty party getting off, the court will be inclined to accept that some jail time is better than none.

I must admit to having a problem with liberal, do-good judges who see themselves as saviors of society, reformers who legislate from the bench. When a judge puts DWI offender on probation, pursuant to his nineteenth conviction, I have a problem with that. IMHO, judges who rule for the benefit of the community at large, victims and potential victims, conservative judges, are far better than those who focus too closely on the offender and his issues. Presently, our judicial system is stacked with liberal judges who see property crimes, drug-fueled offenses and the like as social problems more so than crimes.

I also have worked in the criminal justice system, plea bargins tie hands judges in regards to sentencing all the time, and it takes an awefully good reason for a judge to break a plea bargin (ie, its illegal, ect).

Joe your story is the perfect example of what's wrong with the judicial system. This criminal will never stop, jail time is just time off to spend with his other loser friends in lock up. He'll continue to prey on the law abiding citizens, until Smith & Wesson stops him in his tracks. No telling how many people this low life has ruined over his career. I've been the victim of thieves on several occasions, all no fault of my own. I pray that I never have to take another person's life, but if I ever catch one of these scum bags in my house, end of story.

Small world... I was just in Dickson last year. I visited the local coin shop and picked up a couple morgans while on assignment for work. Brought to you in part by the useless MikeF network.
