At first glance the difference from expected color caught my eye, but then there is also a separate piece of metal around its circumference. The metal ring is pulled up slightly at one point, and I haven't removed it any further. I thought this coin might be hollow at first but I've changed my mind there.

This odd one came in a larger collection of Lincoln cents from a friend employed to clean out a house for landlord, so I don't have any other info.

Looks like it was possibly freed from an encasement.

Weigh it, that will tell if added, does appear to be a mount/bezel of sorts.

It does appear to be a bezel added in preparation for creating a pendant or some other jewelry.

If that's the case, that bezel may be silver.

It is!
It is in a bezel!

Most likely plated to make it silver colored too.
This was popular in the 1950's - 1970's for bracelets and other jewelry.

The way the bezel has tarnished, it could possibly be Silver.
You may test that when you get it off.
