When, not if......when they finally get good at this, our hobby will be at extreme risk. Jim

Everybody likes to hate communist china, but if it's happening there, it's probably happening, or going to happen elsewhere (Africa, eastern Europe, south America). As long as there's a market, it will continue, and no government is going to even try to curtail it. The only way around this, is for the major grading company's to really step security measure's with there process, and slab's (just like we've been doing with our currency). Micro print, magnetic strips, whatever is very hard to duplicate.
Ultimately, if you want to purchase a authentic coin, your going to have to buy it slabbed, and it's going to cost even more money if they have to keep stepping up the security measures.
Or your going to have to buy from someone you trust, and who has a vast knowledge of the coin's they are selling.
All I know is, filling up my 7070, is going to be a lot more expensive.

This is really disturbing. I am wondering how many of those SLQs I bought recently are fake.

Even if the TPGs keep out-doing the forgers, dealers and collectors will need to correctly discern all the genuine slab series. You know what? I'd rather collect coins, and not become a slab authenticator The more collectors share their expertise, and help others spot fakes, the less we'll need to bother with this TPG nonsense. The only effective weapon against the forgers will be the collector community!

Dang it... I am just starting to collect WW2 era Chinese currency... and a bunch of them are showing up on ebay from sellers in China. I wonder if they do the engraving also, now that would be scary if they did.

The TPG's will come up with a solution for the fake slabs, and I imagine a nice little profit will accompany whatever changes they deem necessary. The Chinese may someday get fairly good at producing fake coins, but that day isn't here quite yet. Will they ever be able to produce 100+ year old coins that appear to have thick skins, crustiness and/or the toning that should appear on them? No, I don't really think so.

This forum, which has already caught a few fakes on behalf its members, will help us weather the storm. I also recommend visiting a coin show; look and learn, it is what I do.

Once the Russian Mafia becomes aware of this opportunity..... then things will get interesting......they won't do it until there's enough money involved though.....They'll put a lot more thought and expertise into the operation...much more than any others have done thus far.. that's when the counterfeits will become hard to spot for 80% of coin enthusiasts.. ....and there's where their money will be made. Right now we are at 2% out of a ten thousand, as far as how far this is growing and how lucrative and prevalent it is... . . .. We're on the precipice of some potentially very Dark Times !.... .... .... An ounce of education is worth a ton of prevention........ And that certainly will apply here!!...education will be the ONLY real tool to combat this....so ....I agree with others mentality about that.... ....but you might need to be a 5 star professional expert at some point, if they get that good at counterfeiting.....we'll see........Oh & prayer too......every little bit helps !

Very very frightening...and ebay is the perfect 'fence' for this kind of crap..I recently bought an ms-64 svdb but though long and hard finally bought it at the long beach convention slabbed by pcgs..guess I made a good decision. Now I'm frightened to buy Morgans on ebay. A great choice to counterfeit would be something like an 1899 P vs some rare CC's

This makes me sick! Can I volunteer for the Jack Bauer position? I think if China is willing to let this continue, we should boycott all Chinese imports. Oh wait , that's almost everything we buy. What's really scary is that we are so economically dependant on China, that we have no leverage to force action in situations like these.

Sickening indeed...biggest problem is China doesn't need to produce these coins to hurt us in America...the can drop an economic 'nuke' and call for our debt or cancel our credit card with them and we are 'dead meat'
