TNG Bedrock of the Community United States 10284 Posts	Posted 04/12/2017 7:43 pm This picture I made may help. On a proof the inside of the rim goes straight down to the field or surface of the coin. On circulation coins, there is a curved slope away from the rim to the field of the coin. The top of the rim will also generally be very flat and generally squared off on a proof where the circulation strike may be a more rounded rim. Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 04/12/2017 8:22 pm It's a business strike and it's a wee bit off-center. Notice how LIBERTY is a bit too close to the edge? Another millimeter or so and you would have had a decent error coin. Keep hunting. There's good stuff out there. Report this Post to the Staff

Every time I read about the "squared rims" of proof strikes, I envision a rim that is horizontally squared off, not vertically. Admittedly, there is a bit of overlap in horizontal vs vertical squaring, but the image still does show what to look for! Report this Post to the Staff
