This toonie is being sold in an upcoming auction but I have a hard time seeing how it could be a legitimate error. If it is real I love to know how it came to be like this. Any opinions?   Thanks! |

Mike - the twoonie man tells me that what you are seeing is normal for 1996, almost like a struck through oil phenomena - you also often see it on the other side, near ELIZABETH. Jaime says it is likely hydraulic or lubricating oil. Regardless, I don't collect this series...

to my uneducated eyes it looks like an off center vise job

I don't understand how the reverse gets reversed either, nor where the serrated sections on the rim could come from.

yes they have serrations, but it doesn't address the reversed lettering unless another coin was involved.
would this be a flipped over brockage ? hydraulic oil doesn't explain it

Sold on the floor... the more I looked at this coin... the more I can appreciate what nickelsguy was alluding too... I hope for that price, it was legit (often, we need these things in hand to make those judgements).
