Hi PP

From Eel's original post (here: https://goccf.com/t/29077), I think he got it in a collection from his dad.

As for the reproduction die.. I think Bobby would have caught that.

It's definitely odd.. I would love to know the story of how it came into existence. We may never be privy to that, tho ;) Aaaaah the story *behind* the coin! That's what we actually buy.. ;)

The coin is at PCGS waiting for Fred Weinberg to look at it. Their turnaround time for Mint errors is 25-35 business days, so it's going to be a little while yet.

PCGS is a great choice but didn't you say you were sending it to ICG? -PP

Originally, the plan was to send it to CONECA who deals with ICG as their grading service of choice. However, CONECA recommended to me that I submit it to PCGS and have Fred Weinberg take a look at it because of its potential value. This was great news as far as I was concerned, because I wanted it under PCGS glass from the beginning.

I just hope it wasn't made like the 1969 dime I found was. And another guy I heard of found a 69 Quarter also made of lead. Silver is pretty soft ya know. A 3000lb press and a board caster/machinist could mabey make one of them also. I hope it is worth somthing for his findings.$$$$$Here is a picture of the lead dime.

Amazing find.. Reminds me of the james madison in collar striking. Except yours is that and it is also struck with a whole other dated coin. Congrats and welcome, way to break the ice and come in hard to the forums.

Hello All!

I just wanted you to know all is well, and I'm very happy to know this coin has generated the level of excitement it has. The real value for me however, has been sharing the experience with the wonderful people who have responded, and had such nice things to say. Once more, I thank you all for your input, correspondence, and guidance...and a special additional thank you to the forum owners.

Not unless he makes a mirror image counterfeit first to squeeze it with.

Bobby I was also going to ask one of you knowledgeable guys about dies. Does the mint actually sell the old dies? I thought I heard that somewhere.
