You would care what total strangers on a board thought? A coin that valueable? If the board you just now joined was that important to convince, you could weigh it againin front of said audience.

BobK I agree with you, I think eel has something very interesting, And if it turns out to be a Silver Quarter, and not just a Quarter that was struck on a silver Planchet, I think he would be looking at a sum of over $110,000 bucks.

What's the difference? Silver quarters were, and are still (silver proof), struck on silver planchets.

Alright, now you've all got me looking at my box of weirdos.
Got a 1983 penny that really looks and sounds like it is made of zinc (I've got lots of zinc foreign coins, so I'm familiar). I do not have access to a good scale. Would I be able to weigh it at a post office? If so, what weight would I look for?

What's really funny is we've spent 7 pages discussing this--without I might add, any progress on the _ _ _ _ _ _* * six letter word, any guesses here?

Hey, I'll be there eating crow! No one would be happier for you to have such a rare coin! But, here's the thing... I don't think an apology will be necessary. Jays-Dad: Are you serious? Or are you trying to increase the troll population of this thread by one!

Sorry about that Silver Gorilla. I believe you... think I just misunderstood your post :) Also...thanks to all who feel my approach at authentication (at least as far as this forum is concerned) is the proper one...by letting someone with better authority view the coin and post their findings/opinions. Understand also, that coins are not my "thing"...I mean,I like them and all, but not into it like you guys are. So...maybe the reality of what I have is not quite as pronounced had one of YOU had it. Further...the $1000.00 offer by Mr. Halperin told me I had something of pretty impressive value...but all things are relative I suppose. The numbers you are all guestimating at now make me feel scared to even handle the dang thing! :)

I have seen several times where the question of weight or dimension has come into question and have wondered why someone serious about coins do not possess a jeweler's scale or a micrometer. You can buy a scale sensitive to .1gram for as little as $15-20 and a digital micrometer from Harbor Freight also on sale for as little as $15-20. Both can be put into your pocket for shows, yard sales, or measuring coins you have bought. With care they can last for many years with just a battery change. With the Chinese connections, how can you be without? I bet more gasoline money has been spent on this. ( small rant) sorry.

No problem Ratio411. Again, I understand the skepticism, and have thick skin. I'm just having fun with you guys. My aim is true with having the coin evaluated by better educated authority...

desertgem...if you have followed the entire thread, I've stated on several occasions that coin collecting is not my hobby. I only came to this forum to inquire about silver prices and the opinions of those who would be more informed than I, regarding selling the silver coins I have for their collector value, OR their silver value. THAT is when I mentioned the 1972 silver quarter I had, which, at THAT time I knew, or thought, might have some value, as I was offered $1000.00 for it at Heritage Auction. Since, this has become a very exciting thread...for all of you, and definitely for me! So... I hope this helps to explain why I don't have a scale, nor do I have any of the things a true coin collector might have.

eel there's no need to be sorry, I'm a good guy...... I think you are in allot of pressure in this thread, Well any way I'm very interested in your coin, and if Forum mom and dad says its a silver 1972 Quarter and is graded then ill be the first to buy a ticket, and get my butt over to where you are, and offer a hefty price for your coin, That would place me one of the top bidders if this coin would be placed in a coin Auction in the United Stats.
