Good morning guys! I've read all your posts, and sorry if I don't address each and every one...

This coin has no mint mark...so the assumption is that is was minted in...(?) Philadelphia... ?

As for weighing the coin...sure I could go places and have that done...probably should for as much publicity as this thing's getting! But pictures can be deceiving, and MY simply stating the weight, I feel, would not lend credibility at this juncture.

Also, please know that I do appreciate and understand all your scrutiny! :) I am very excited at the potential of this thing being something valuable. Having the forum's "mom and dad" look at the coin, post pics, and inform you all will be the ultimate say, so it seems. To my untrained eye, the coin looks, and "seems" to feel the weight of a standard silver quarter (vs clad). That, and (dare I say this again) the "clink" test indicate to me this is silver. Further...I've at least taken the time to look for the fella's name who looked at the coin at Heritages... "James Halperin" - C0-Chairman of the Board...so I was wrong...not the VP...

Anyway...Assuming no one is planning to take the big dirt nap by Monday, please hang tight. I have made arrangements to meet with the forum's mom.

I've found that "dirt naps" are rarely "planned" ... and Tic-Tacs to all of those waiting with "baited breath".

If I had a coin that I thought might be an extremely rare (possibly one of a kind) coin I would do two things.

1. Find out if it's real immediately (IE go out, buy a scale, and confirm)

2A. If it's not what I thought, and ended up being a run-of-the-mill coin, I'd happily post my finds on this board and have a nice story to tell.
2B. If it did in fact end up being the coin I (we) were all hoping it would be I would get it in some kind of protection and get it immediately into a safe deposit box. The I'd go home, eat an entire chocolate cake, and post my findings here on this board.

eel, I hope there's a delicious, moist, spectacular chocolate cake in your near future.. but I guess we're going to have to wait until Monday.. blast!

I have a similar coin too but I'm going to shut my mouth since I seemed to have misplaced it and can't find it right now. It does look and feel like silver though.

I found it while roll searching (it was a Kennedy half), examined it because it was odd and but it aside. 1972, non-clad, not a proof either. Had some plastic coating (shrink-wrap ?) that I carefully peeled after an acetone soak. From the edge, you cannot see any of the red-brown clad material. Unfortunately, I did not have a scale then. Now, I can't find it !!

Eel: Don't want to beat that same horse so I'll stop posting, eat popcorn, and be patient after saying this but the point of doing your own initial quantifiable tests is to at least get past your own requirements. It's not for us, it's for you. We wouldn't doubt you, we'd cheer you on! Especially since you are inviting people we trust to check it out in person.

Okay I'm done *zips lips*

Looks like you guys have been duped by a troll.

We all know that something so rare, any person
with the rudimentary knowledge the poster claims
to have, would have gone anywhere with a
scale, at the first possible moment.
Even a post office scale... They are open at
least 5 days a week, and are everywhere.

How long has this thread been duping you?
Longer than a P.O. would be closed.

I disagree; I feel Eel is going about it exactly the right way. Rather than claiming to have weighed it himself, he's bringing it to people we all would trust to do the verification. If he claimed to have weighed it himself and determined it was silver, many of us would be thinking "Uh oh, another Littleton yard sale story".

You would put off weighing it yourself?
Tell the truth.

Just to post a link on a message board and
string along the members, along with yourself
not knowing?
A board you just joined?

Just so you can find out yourself in front of
total strangers you don't know from Jack?

I don't think so.
