I lived in Fairbanks in the pre-pipeline days.
But that was "big city" even then (pop = 15,000) compared to where you live now.
I remember Matanuska Maid being the dairy but it appears that it closed a few years back (2012?).
And of course silver dollars circulated quite freely, probably more than paper dollars.
