60 of these silver medals were made and handed out to the Fathers of Confederation way back when and then a few more in that group of 60 were passed on to a few other deserving Canadians back in 1867. ~ 300 were also made with the same specs but in bronze and one was made in Gold and resides with the Queen..
Just received my RCNA Journal today.. The cover shows a Bronze example of this 1867 Confederation Medal and it also covers this important medal over a very complete 9 pages. Also included is a brief but detailed history and development of Canada in it's infancy.. Discusses how Canada's first medal came to be..and much added info on the recipients and many following native leader recipients etc.. A great article indeed.. Much new added info from what I was previously told.. There were 50 in silver and 500 in bronze and one in Gold for the Queen.. Should make all of us want to be RCNA members.. .

DEVLEC that is an AWESOME piece! I've seen a few of the bronze examples, but never a silver one and definitely not with the original box. Can't wait to get my RCNA journal and read all about it.

It is a great edition of the CN Journal for sure with 1967 coinage throughout. Wondering if you have seen the 2017 NCLT version of the Confederation Medal currently sold out at the Mint website, with the same reverse with doubled date 1867-2017 and dual effigy of Victoria and QEII on the obverse, in 10 ounce format. A neat replica but nothing as original and rare as the one DEVLEC has shown. http://www.mint.ca/store/coins/10-o....WV6k6YjyuUk

Thanks SilverDon! I just saw that this morning after looking into these medals for fun. About as tempting for me as RCM material comes -- no gimmicks, just really good historically and numismatically significant content. And a ton of silver. What more could one want?

A silver medal from my local club. I think 20 pieces were struck, plus 100 in copper.

Hey Nickelguy, it wasn't left out, I posted it on Canada Day - see p 1. Still nice to see others. Happy belated Canada Day and Independence Day to all.

It feels at home now rockfish, nice and comfy between yours and Canacoins. I'm sure I saw it earlier but I was using my "search for" for just the 1867, 1917, 1967, 2017 dates. Thanks for looking too. I wonder if there were silver, smaller or larger ones made of that 1927 medal?
