Hugues: Thank you for posting your 1939's. I have found that solid attractive gem MS65's are very tough to acquire compared to SP65's and up. At least in PCGS slabs.

here is my "rare" war variety special strike from the mint, although I didnt pay much, I think it was only a couple dollars over melt it fills a spot in my book. on a side note a few years back I had lost interest collecting for a few years as a result was not in tune with coin values, I went to a buy and sell store where they had a few coins in a tray of silver jewelry I noticed a 1945 dollar there but I thought $30 for a silver dollar was a rip off. when I got home I pulled out my coin book and said OH SH$* so I called them as the were only open for a few minutes more to ask them to hold it for me but they said it was just sold,,,,i went by the next morning and sure enough it wasn't there. oh well you win some you lose some

Quote: another nice example..this was from the pill jar.. The magic Pill Jar, every one a beauty, especially that 1945, crisp full strike. Looks like a PL finish. Is it graded? Thanks for sharing that great looking coin. Pill Jar never disappoints. Should be noted in the grading, Pill Jar Collection - DEVLEC.

The magic Pill Jar, every one a beauty, especially that 1945, crisp full strike. Looks like a PL finish. - DEVLEC. That jar had each year from 35 up to somewhere in the 60's,..but I don't remember where it stopped at.. Each year this older co-workers wife's dad would go to the bank and pick up 3 dollars of that year and give each of 3 kids that years dollar. His wife was very young in 35. His wife now near retirement (as was he) wanted them sold if possible. Her dad was told that there were never 48's available, (he must have gone earlier to the bank in each year and the 48's had never arrived),.. so no 48's were ever picked up by her dad. ....and I wasn't going after the other dollars..as I was a "collector" and wanted one of each,.. and not 3 of each..and I just wanted "to secure that jar". I never saw or asked about the others coins..I new nothing about 2x2's for coin protection and did not own a coin book at that time.. I wrapped each coin in a piece of paper towel at their house to stop them from touching each other as I did know that that was no good from a collectors point of view. I was a new young collector and naturally could not set a price to properly offer her so I told him to go around to several coin shops/dealers and get a price for each dollar and I would give them more (I promised) than the best offer for them all..and that's what I did..He showed me a list of each coins best offer.. I offered him more because I would have to pay more if I bought them in any shop as he had to add his profit. I made sure that he NOT sell them to any dealer...but I do remember what I payed for the 35 to the 60's's..and that's because from 49 on, each was just a few bucks each.. That magic jar (as you call it) Don,.. got me started on nice coins.. . .
