Thank you for the info latman100 it is very much appreciated. The ones without his initials are pretty scarce aren't they, of all my 1968 2 cent coins I only had 4 without the initials. Does any one what these coins are worth, they are in about VF to EF condition. Thanks Bryan

Maccas only has a value for the '67 no SD. $100 in Unc, compared to $13 for the regular coin. As for the '68, it is already the most expensive by far of all the 2c issues. Without the SD, I imagine it would be quite pricey in high grade. The '68 2c is probably the hardest of all the decimal series to find in perfect condition and I wouldn't hesitate to pay $100 plus for a really nice example. I would hang onto all the '68s you have, even low grades are bringing good prices on ebay.

The 1967 "No SD" 2 cent has transacted about 5 times in the last 15 years that I've noted two of which were "Mint-state". I would class it as very-rare. The 1968 'No-SD' 2 cent piece is extremely rare. I've seen one a dealer in Sydney had 15 years ago in EF-40 and one in mint-state-that's all in those 15 years and would rate it as such.
The Australian catalogue only rates the 1968 2 cent by its regular price as no transactions have come to their attention so the price hasn't been established. Both coins are severely underated considering they were noted in the 1970's and re-discovered in 1996 by J.H from Beecroft in Sydney.

Yes 1968 no SD 2c do exist but they are very hard to find. I had one a few years ago. I'll see if I can find a piccy.

Are the no SD a result of die fill?

Are they worth much (with SD) when not in mint state? Pretty sure I have some circulating ones somewhere.

I don't know why everyone gets so confused over this, because it's really not complicated. The scarcest circulating 2c coins are as follows: 1. 1969 (13 million) 2. 1968 (17 million) 3. 1988 (29 million) 4. 1985 (33 million) 5. 1970 (40 million) There are also five NCLT years: 1986 (180 thousand) 1987 (200 thousand) 1990 (100 thousand) 1991 (150 thousand) 2006 (130 thousand) Thus, the scarcest circulating 2c coin was dated 1969, followed closely by 1968. If you include NCLT years, the scarcest 2c coin was dated 1990, followed closely by 2006 and 1991. Now, because the NCLT coins came from mint sets and proof sets, they're all in very high grade, so although their mintage was very low, it's very easy to get them in uncirculated condition, so none of them are particularly valuable. The same goes for all other years in which mint sets and proof sets were issued. However, due to the redesign of the 50c, no mint sets or proof sets were issued in 1967 or 1968, so our best specimens for these two years came straight from circulation. Because circulated coins get damaged quickly, only a very small number of 1967 and 1968 2c coins were kept in uncirculated or almost uncirculated condition, with the problem being exacerbated in 1968 due to the low mintage. Hence, it's easy to obtain a 1969 2c coin in high grade, but not a 1968 one, which makes a 1968 2c coin in high grade much more valuable. Unfortunately, most 1968 and 1969 2c coins have been heavily circulated, so they aren't worth much more than face value. The only exception is if they're missing the SD, in which case, they'll be valuable no matter what condition they're in. This is because they're hard to find in any condition, let alone the higher grades, so most people are willing to settle for one in average circulated condition. I hope this helps.

You forgot the NCLT 2016 1c and 2c coins included in the "In come the Dollars, In come the Cents" set with a mintage of only 10,000 which actually makes these the lowest mintage 1c and 2c coins
