1766 Bavaria 'Madonna' thaler: 'bout as close as I can come. Quote:
This topic is in serious danger of failing. I really like the idea, though, and hope it stays alive. Thread has been poorly managed and attended to since day 2. If the OP does not care about his own creation enough to show up on a regular basis with clear guidelines as to how to proceed, it seems only a matter of time before it self destructs. Now we have a situation where each new challenger can set their own rules?

I only have two coins from the approximate date range, but neither are close in any other way. My closest match would be this Bavarian 1 kreuzer piece from 1851:

Quote: I think it is okay to move on after three days of being idle if it has been seven since the challenge was posted. It is - I was distracted for unrelated reasons during much of the last 48 hours, so missed the 7-day deadline. Thanks for starting the new round anyway! The point count for the previous round, as well as my response coin for this round, should follow sometime tomorrow (hopefully).

Rats! I could have gotten 1 point for this round but, I sold the coin. Oh well, 1 point wouldn't have gone very far.

I actually have one close! German States, Henneberg 5 kreuzer (as 1/240 Mark), 1765 Same denomination, off by 1 year, same general area (ish). As for the thread, I had hoped that since nobody liked my original rules (that were actually clear but I suppose neither suited for the traffic on this forum nor particularly clear) that a hands-off approach would help to let the members settle on a better set of rules that everyone is happy with. I had thought we had settled on a workable solution (3 days to post, challenger sets parameters) but if nobody else shares that sentiment, I can help to referee and moderate. Just be warned that many areas of numismatics I am not well versed in, so I won't be helpful in determining a winner in all cases.

You guys are doing well. 8 offerings, and there is still the rest of today and all day tomorrow to go.
There is a nice variety of coins being posted.
By the way, Finn235, although Henneberg is in the general area, it does not appear to meet my criteria of Bavaria as an approximate country, since it is in Thuringia, almost on the border with Bavaria. I do hope that this is not considered to be too picky!

OK, 3 days have elapsed, and there have been no more postings for over a day.
All aboard who is coming on board!
Here are the standings.
1.Arkie: 2 offerings, best is 2 points 2. mysilveryears: 3 points 3. Joseph7420: 2 points 4. Dorado: 1 point 5. Pepactonius: 3 points 6. Finn235: 3 points 7. Coopertron5000: 1 points
We have 3 contenders at 3 points, but since @mysilveryears was the first to post, it seems only fair to declare @mysilveryears the winner of this round.

Sounds good to me and seems to be a better pace. It was nice to see all the contributions. I hope I can actually post something in the future and step out of the color commentator role.

Does anyone want to see the point counts for my round?
(I had apparently misplaced the coin I intended to post, by the way. It was an 1758 Bavaria kreuzer.)

I don't see the harm if you want to tally them up. And looking forward to the next challenge coin
