Lovely designs for the bullion accumulator. You need to be in that part of the price per coin, price range. When you are paying that sort of money per coin, smaller gold coins can be considered as well. Perth Mint would be happy to sell those instead, if that is your thinking.

I became interested in the Kookaburra's a few years ago and have a one ounce coin from each year since they were first minted. I also started getting "mint tubes" of the one ounces and then got into the ten ounce coins. My best advice to you is to get them early and hopefully when spot is lower. Right now at least three of the big online dealers have the "Notify Me" icon up on the 2018 kooks. In a short time they will be up for pre-sale, these pre-sale prices are usually the best price you will find for these coins, no guarantee but that is mostly what I have seen and sometimes you can find a sale for the current year. If you are thinking of getting earlier dates you will pay up for them. Doing a quick search you would be hard pressed to find a 2017 10oz kook for under $200, as you go back in dates the price only goes one direction.....up. The premiums definitely go up quickly but will they hold long term? I have no idea but hope so but mostly I enjoy the coins themselves. Good luck. This is from about two years ago, has grown a bit since.

Thanks guys... I did buy much older Kooks, both proof and bullion, as I was collecting them about 10 years was it? Then I stopped completely, guess lost interest had not bought any until this year. What got me into the Kookaburras again tho was the 2 coin set they released, the proof version and bullion set. I was buying proof one's directly from the Perth Mint when they still made proof ones and I guess at some point they stopped. I like the idea of the Kookaburra being on a big sized coin personally since the designs are pretty darn neat! thanks again for the ideas and feed back guys! Ill let you know what I decide, right now I am leaning on snatching a 10 oz Kookburra for 2017 before that year isn't available.

I dont collect every year of this coin but I do like some of their designs and some of their older ones I think of these coins alot like the panda's. Beautiful but lots of mintages. I have the 2016 1oz, 10oz, kilo. I Didnt get any 2017 cause I thought The design was a little weak. 2018 looks cool with the moon but a bit plain. I like the 2016 better. I might get 1 to see in person tho.

I usually get a proof with box/coa each year as well and usually from one of the online dealers or the auction site, wherever I can find the better price. That being said, it is in my opinion quite a stretch to get the premium back on them, but I collect them, I don't sell them.

@taphandle are you referring to the high relief proof or just the regular proof editions? As an example, back in the day, I would say around 2003ish, I havent looked now in a few weeks but I would just get the proof Kookaburra coin, came in like say in orange velvet box from the Perth Mint. When I was collecting them, they had no high relief coins for the Kooks. kinda like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-Austra...AOSwepJXX2rr

No, never really considered a 5oz, They run a little high for me.
The sales and pre-sales on the Kooks have started, most of the big dealers are asking a pretty good chunk of premium on these this year, much more than last. I have found one dealer that has fairly good prices.

I have noticed that a few reputable dealers run auctions on these proof coins and they come out really in line price wise. I am going to see if more pop of the 2017s

They nailed the 2018 kook design IMO, I'm going to grab the kilo if I can track one down at a reasonable price!

yea 2018 looks good, didnt they do a moon in the back ground with a gold kangaroo a few years back as well? another thing that I like about the Kooks is the Perth Mint and their quality AND the fact that they openly addressed milk spots in 2015 and have said they are committed at finding out how to stop it or minimize that problem. most mints just say "oh well" or go around in circles. so its a win win for us collectors to buy Perth Mint products

I grabbed some 2015 10 oz kooks a while back because I liked the 25th anniversary design on them. I don't grab the 10 ozers every year but they are fun to look at when I pull them out of the safe
