This would totally not shock me...and I wouldn't be surprised if you tripped over an original 1,000 coin bag of 1893-S Morgans to get to it.

Yeowch. That'd be 1903-O all over again, and a lot of current holders would be left without chairs when the music ended.

What the rest of the non-collecting world learned from Saddle Ridge and the Langbord 10.

Don't feel bad, the 1909 VDBs are notoriously beautiful strikes that have fooled more than one person.

I am going to agree with Mark. There are a few things to observe on the 09 Matte. One is that there are a few distinct die markers. One is on the rim for several matte proofs. Second, the chance of a matte proof cent going into circulation in that time period is not an impossibility. Lastly, under magnification, a matte die is sandblasted. This would leave MANY dot like "imperfections" on the face of the coin. Matte Proofs are interesting because people are so unfamiliar with them.

I actually did get hit by lightning twice in the same day...actually in the same hour. Another story for another day. Note to self, don't go outside during a thunderstorm to work on the pool
