I like the ATB Quarters okay but, I'm not currently collecting them and I see them everyday in circulation. I agree that most of the designs would look more appropriate on a larger coin. I'll probably wait until the series is finished, then put a couple proof sets together (clad & silver) like I'm doing with the 50 States quarters. Colourised coins just don't appeal to me right now. I could change my mind in the future.

I collect both when both are meant for circulation. I enjoy the hunt . The longer it takes the better . And when I finally see it drop into my hand it feels as good as dropping a 40 foot dble break putt. Almost. Would much rather have a ms64 circ. than a 66NBU.

I collect Canadian colour circulation strikes.
I keep them in the binder next to the other circulating issues for the year.

I don't mind the colourized coins - as long as they are circulation strikes.
I don't collect coins like I used to anymore because I have become rather cynical of the way the mint it putting out coins to encourage hoarding - which in turn drives up demand for more "replacement" circulation coins.
The factors leading up to my cynisism are (in no specific order): 1) ARP = Alloy Recovery Program); essentially removing coins which are not steel from circulation, and replacing them with steel garbage. 2) all the stupid quarters; 1992 was cool... I started trying to collect the 1999, then gave up during the 2000 calender year... and now it seems there's an average of two non-caribou quarters put out per calender year.... make it stop(!) 3) all the stupid dollar coins; 1992 was cute, 1995 was ho-hum, but then somewhere between the lucky lonies and Terry Fox dollars, I started losing interest... it seems that now we have an average of two different dollar coins per year in addition to the loon issue... please stop!! 4) polymer bills; if our currency wasn't worthless enough, they had to replace good old "paper" money with cheaper plastic garbage... really!?!!?
I have the Lighthouse/Lechtrum series of books, and those are just about the only reason why I still look for at least one nice example of each current coin.. that and I have two kids (2 yo & 8 month old) that I am trying to saving one example of each coin for - until they are able to decide if they want ot continue it for themself... Unlike years bygone, I don't sweat it too much if I don't find one; I believe I am still missing a colourized flag, and poppy quarter; I have found all the 2017 crap except for a colourized toonie...
Please don't start me on the NCLT colourized/shaped/bedazzled crap the mint is putting out... ugg.

I'm with unruhjonny. I like that there are different coins to find but I've only saved what I've found in circulation for the last 10 years, except proof sets to 2012 when I gave up on those also. Too many configurations of different coins in different sets.
There are so many people saving rolls of everything for the last 20 years that every future collector will have their pick of every coin in mint condition, and probably can find it at face value as there will be millions more coins than collectors.

As long as they're circulation strikes I'll collect them. I don't like every design they put out and prefer the 'less is more' coloured coins like the previously mentioned 'Legendary Nature' and '1812' quarters. Was not a fan of the most recent 'Poppy' or the 2014 'Flag', but they were circulation so I kept one of each. Just an FYI, the image posted of the 'Pink Ribbon' quarter on page 1 is not a circulation quarter, that one came with a special bookmark and perhaps other sets (not sure, but I have the bookmark one) ... The circulation 'Pink Ribbon' looks like this:

I will collect colorized coins that have been issued into circulation at face value. A marketing gimmick otherwise.
The Royal Australian Mint does this sort of exercise approximately on a yearly basis. Such coins are very difficult to find in circulation as one may well expect, because comparatively few are issued.

I agree - I dislike most of the coloured coins - they are an embarrassing FAD and in most cases I've seen look horrible after the colour starts to rub off.

I'm not really into the coloured coins but I collect the circulation strikes like many others here for the sake of continuity.

I am trying to collect the coloured circulation quarters the same as the regular quarters for the grandkids. But some colour quarters are so much harder to find than the others. Still looking for a couple from the Olympic set of 2010 and the remembrance red quarter from 2015 seems to be really hard to find. Not sure why these are so much harder than others.

Reviving an old thread. Perhaps an obvious observation, but for anyone that receives a coloured quarter in their change and decides that it is quite dirty and needs an acetone bath, don't. It will certainly clean it up but it will also dissolve the colouring. The applied colour must be similar to nail polish.

Thank you. I know it has been discussed a few times in the past. My search only shows some really old topics and not anything more recent, so this is a good reminder to see again.
