I have little patience for such thinks so I know I would just break down and purchase
what I needed to finish it and move on to the next desired project.

As you probably know, you can get a 50-D uncirculated, including shipping, for about $12 on the bay. That's not a hard decision for me, unless . . . it is important to you to say you filled the book from coins you found in circulation. Jeffs and Roosevelts are the only complete sets I have completely from circulation (long ago), so I'm not unsympathetic to that viewpoint.

I filled about 3/4 of my Whitman album from pocket change back in the 80s and 90s. Then, after a hiatus to raise two little girls, I got back in the hunt by crh for several years. Now, I think I am going to break down and buy the last few I need just to say it's finally finished.

I just started a silver dime year folder, so I can pretty much resign myself to purchase a majority of those. Only had about 20 needed in my old silver stash. And I've been buying the last few Lincoln's for the dansco (a '31S yesterday), so it isn't really giving up is it?

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

Completing a set of Jefferson nickels from circulation is still quite possible. I have searched four $100 boxes a week since 2010, I have found every date and mint and nearly every proof since 1957. Among the "Big Five", I have found 28 1938-D, 13 1938-S, 7 1939-D, 31 1939-S, and 8 1950-D. So, certainly this set can be completed from circulation. Interestingly enough, if you find a 50-D, it will likely bu AU or better. A friend found eight 1950-D's, all BU and toned a bright gold, in a single $100 box. Alas, that ruined roll hunting for him, such a find is hard to top. I am still looking for a really nice 1939-D. Most of my set is XF or better. Keep searching, they are out there.

Perseverance and lots of nickels searched are the key. It took me 230,800 nickels searched to find the final one I needed (1938-S).

nickelsearcher, your user name is well selected. Wow.
