On the word ELLINGTON, second L and the I have what looks like a swirl of metal on them at the top of the L and at the bottom of the I.

New one on me. Looks like melted metal almost!!

John1, I'm using a Plugable digital microscope (usb2-micro-250x) with adjustable LED light.

I continue to try to alter the light yet it seems to always look best at the higher lighting and very dim and discolored at a lower light level.

I have two of that type of scope. I had to block off all but one LED and put a filter on that one. Then I use a handheld LED flashlight. When needed I also have a handheld LED flashlight that has a filter over it. But,whenever possible I like using a point-N-shoot camera set to macro mode.
