There's not much toning or luster in the right obverse field. I wouldn't pay au58 money for this coin.

Or that's just what the picture is showing from how it was taken or the toning. Circulation wouldn't just wear off the right obverse field luster and barely touch anything else. Stars weren't worn flat either, there's far to much detail elsewhere for the stars to have worn down like that. Its an O mint not a Philly.

It's hard to say without seeing it in hand. I'll take a stab though and say AU-53. It looks like a nice original coin.

Large Date. I'm calling it AU53, in a very rare case (for me) of allowing eye appeal to negatively affect my grade on a coin. I believe the coin's technical merit exceeds the grade, especially factoring known strike artifacts for this issue, but I'm hesitant to go the higher AU grades for a coin which shows no remaining luster.

Not that I'd avoid owning it.

I don't understand how people can determine the remaining luster (or lack thereof) by looking at an image? Yes the toning is thick on this one but that doesn't mean there isn't luster underneath. A coin really needs to be seen in hand to appreciate that.

This is the only coin I won from that wonderful auction by great collections. And for the shocker: This coin is graded xf-45 by PCGS. I paid roughly $347 for it. (assuming the check payment option doesn't take forever, they now give a 2.5% discount for paying that way-dodging papal fees-I love it)

/Really bummed I couldn't get the order in for the 56-O. Loved that coin as well.

Good buy at that price. Coins like this often get a bump to AU at NGC & ANACS.
